Preventing Sewer Line Clogs and Sewage Backups
Underneath the ground outside your home or business are the sewer lines that whisk away water and waste to your septic or sewer system. Most people do not think about maintaining their sewer lines, or give them much thought at all, unless there is a problem. Like any pipe or plumbing, sewer lines can become clogged. Grease, food, hair and other waste that goes down the drain can accumulate as sludge, and tree roots can invade pipes, creating blockages. If not cleaned and maintained, sewer lines can become clogged and cause inconvenient sewage backups.
When food, grease or tree roots create a blockage in your sewer line, the first sign is slower drains in your building. The first drains to be affected will be the ones closest to the main sewer line drain, usually on the lowest level of the home or business. Sewage may back up into toilets, floor drains, showers or bathtubs. When a complete blockage occurs in the sewer line, you can have toilets and drains overflowing, causing a hazardous mess in your home or business.
How Do You Prevent Sewer Line Clogs?
Like any plumbing clog, prevention of sewer line clogs start at what goes down the drain. For residential sewer lines, reducing the amount of grease, fat, food debris, hair and non-biodegradable waste can help reduce the occurrence of clogs. For commercial sewer lines, a grease interceptor or trap may be needed. Another option is preventive maintenance with sewer line hydro-jetting.
Commercial hydro-jetting uses high-pressured water to clean the inside of your sewer lines. These hoses have special nozzles that spray streams of pressurized water to clear debris and sludge from the inside of sewer pipes. These hoses and nozzles are designed to propel forward through the pipe, pushing sludge and debris forward ahead of the nozzle. The pressurized water is powerful enough to remove tree roots and solidified waste from inside pipes, preventing clogs from forming.
At Eco Pump Services, we offer hydro-jetting services to clean underground sewer lines to prevent clog formations. We also have snake cable lines that can remove tough sewer line clogs that are causing sewage backups. If you have slow drains and want to clean your sewer lines, call us for sewer line service.
